Join us for Rebecca Hennessy’s Singer-Songwriter Circle featuring Sarah Greene, Michael Herring, and Rebecca Hennessy.
On Sunday, March 15th at Tranzac, three distinct songwriting voices come together for an intimate evening of shared songs and collaboration. Throughout the night, these artists will take turns presenting original material, accompanying one another, and shaping the music in real time—an attentive, listening-forward performance grounded in story and connection.
Sarah Greene’s writing is intimate, concise, and idiosyncratically classic. Rooted in warm, country-tinged folk-rock balladry, her songs explore loneliness, vulnerability, and the tension between freedom and attachment with emotional precision.
Michael Herring—widely recognized as a JUNO-nominated double bassist—steps forward here as a vocalist and songwriter. His project Harrington has been described as a journey into the quirky mind of Michael Herring: eclectic, wry, and grounded, with finely observed details and unexpected turns.
Rebecca Hennessy’s current project places her at the centre as a narrative songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, blending jazz, roots, and poetic song. Her music is inviting and emotionally resonant, exploring connection, memory, mortality, and our shared relationship to the natural world. Her recent single Crickets offers a glimpse into this reflective body of work.
An evening of deep listening, collaboration, and songs shared in the round.

Join us on Sunday, January 18th from 7:30–9:30pm for an intimate Singer-Songwriter Circle evening that puts songs, stories, and shared musical language at the centre of the room.
This special night brings together three distinct and deeply expressive voices: Jenie Thai, Kevin Breit, and Rebecca Hennessy, with the circle anchored by the unmistakable grounding presence of Michael Herring on upright bass. Moving song by song, each artist will share original material and chosen favourites, responding to one another in real time—musically, lyrically, and emotionally.
Singer-songwriter circles are about listening as much as performing. The format allows the audience to experience songs in their most honest form, stripped of excess and rich with intention. Expect moments of spontaneity, collaboration, and vulnerability as these artists weave their individual perspectives into a shared musical conversation.
Jenie Thai’s writing is known for its clarity and emotional nuance. Kevin Breit brings his signature blend of depth, groove, and fearless creativity. Rebecca Hennessy’s work balances heart, curiosity, and a sense of play, drawing listeners into a space that feels both personal and communal. With Michael Herring’s upright bass providing warmth and propulsion, the music breathes, stretches, and settles naturally.
If you love songs that tell the truth, musicians who listen to each other, and performances that only happen once, this evening is for you. Come take a seat, lean in, and be part of the circle.- More

Join us for an unforgettable night of words, groove, and collective joy at the Tranzac, featuring Ronna Bloom, The Uplifters, and Rebecca Hennessy.
Celebrated poet Ronna Bloom is the author of eight books of poetry and a singular voice in Canadian literature. Her work has been broadcast on CBC, recorded by the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, translated into Bangla and Chinese, and featured multiple times in Best Canadian Poetry, with nominations for the Pushcart Prize. Ronna has collaborated widely with filmmakers, choreographers, musicians, and architects, and in 2018 her poem “The City” was painted 35 metres wide on King Street in Toronto. She has also brought poetry into health care, founding the Poet-in-Residence program at Sinai Health. This fall, she launched her powerful new book In a Riptide with double bassist Michael Herring in a joyously packed room — and the ripple continues.
The Uplifters always vote YES. YES to slinky groove. YES to making the trip to happiness. YES to togetherness and friendship. Michael Herring (bass), Dave Clark (drums), and Jason Kenemy (piano) play deeply soulful, New Orleans–inspired music made for absolutely everyone. You didn’t know you needed this experience until you sit in the room with them — and then suddenly, it all makes sense.
Trumpeter, vocalist, and composer Rebecca Hennessy brings it all together, weaving sound, song, and spirit into an evening of connection, movement, and deep listening.
Come warm up your winter with us — this one’s about community, creativity, and saying YES. ✨- More
